The Song of the Chemo

Where I live there are lots of what are known as emos and chavs. They gangs of teenagers and have been known to fight (or more accurately, the chavs have been known to attack the emos). It set me wondering as to what these two groups, who seem so different, might have in common.

All  products of a consumer society
iPod, mobile phone, own computer, virtual home

Hidden behind a clothing facade
The only real purpose to make us look hard

The chav: white skin, black music, white clothes
The emo: white skin, black music, black clothes

Would anyone mind explaining the difference to me?
Cos right now I'm really struggling to see

Round here mostly our skin's the same
White v. white, divided by a name

Music in monochrome - one colour only I see
No actually, I'm wrong, the red of blood flows through both our songs

So in the end does it come down to this?
Was I really gunna miss something as small as that?

That the colour of our clothes is the main divide
A simple choice of black or white.

We see ourselves as rebels, underground, against the grain
But in the end our stuff's all the same
